How to use OpenOffice.org Writer with WBC Report Writer
OpenOffice.org is just one alternative to using MS Office applications with WBC Report Writer - It is free and available for download at www.openoffice.org.
- When your reports are finished you will need to convert the database that contains your reports into an openOffice database file.
- Open the program OpenOffice.org Base from the start menu.
- Select Connect to an existing Database.
- In the drop down menu select Microsoft Access.
- Click Next.
- Browse to find the file MyReports.mdb. The file is located in the following location My Documents\My Data Sources\MyReports.mdb
- In the Open window select the file MyReports.mdb and click Open.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Choose a name for your report database and Save.
Using the Existing Word Report Templates with OpenOffice.org
Word Mail Merge fields do not work with OpenOffice Writer. It is necessary to save the Word Templates as OpenOffice Writer documents and then reinsert the mail merge fields.
- Open a Report Template in OpenOffice Writer.
- Select File - Save As.
- In the Save As dialogue box change the Save As Type to ODF Text Document (.odt).
- Click Save.
